Cross Country Running

Thurston kicked off the season by placing second out of 90 varsity finishers at the Essex Invitational. CVU's Alicia Veronneau won the race in 19 minutes, 6.6 seconds, while Thurston won a heated battle for second place. The HU endurance star crossed the line in 19:14.4, barely edging CVU's Alice Larson (third, 19:14.5). Harwood finished fourth overall and was the top Division II school, beating U-32 by 23 points. Thurston maintained an average mile pace of 6:12, reinforcing her reputation as the runner to beat in Division II. She is the defending individual D-II champion and Harwood is the returning team champ after claiming nine titles in the past decade.
