Thurston was one of a handful of U.S. junior skiers selected to travel to Falun, Sweden, last weekend for the Under-18 Scandinavian Cup Championships. She kicked off the event with a bang, finishing eighth out of 108 world-class racers during Friday's 5-kilometer freestyle race in 21 minutes, 39.4 seconds. She was the top American, finishing behind five Norwegians and two Swedes. On Saturday she qualified 16th during the sprints and placed third in her quarterfinal heat. She missed out on the semifinals by 1.67 seconds. Thurston wrapped up a fast-and-furious racing schedule Sunday, teaming up with Haley Brewster and Nina Seemann for a mixed relay. They placed fifth out of 28 teams with a time of 23:16. The U.S. squad was 29.5 seconds away from landing on the podium.
