PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. — The Plattsburgh State baseball team blanked Norwich, 10-0, in the Cardinals’ home opener on Tuesday.
Plattsburgh State improves to 8-15 while Norwich falls to 5-16. Senior Rocco Cipriano went 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs and one run in the victory. Senior Patrick Bryant went 2-for-3 at the plate and recorded three RBIs and one run.
Michael Koytikh had two hits for Norwich. Mike Lesco, Brendon Profita, Jacob Parizo, Connor McGee and Brady Doerty also recorded hits in the loss.
Cardinals sophomore Erik Matz went 2-for-4 at the plate with two runs, while junior teammate Stephen Lydon went 2-for-3 with one RBI. Junior Keller Kowalowski, sophomore Tom Bowe and Lydon all recorded stolen bases, with Bowe stealing twice.
Bryant drove in Kowalowski during the bottom of the first inning and the Cardinals doubled their lead in the bottom of the third. Bryant doubled to left field to drive in Matz, and Cipriano doubled to left field to plate Bryant. Cipriano scored in the bottom of the sixth off a fielder’s choice after getting on base with another double and advancing to third off a throwing error.
The Cardinals recorded four runs in the bottom of the seventh. Matz scored off a sacrifice fly from Bryant, Kowalowski scored off a single from Cipriano, Bowe scored off a single from Lydon and Alec Fauvell scored off a groundout.
In the bottom of the eighth, freshman Marion Oferman hit a triple to deep left center to drive in senior Frank Finkbeiner. Oferman scored off a throwing error.
Bryant picked up the win after pitching six innings. He allowed five hits and struck out seven.
Freshmen teammates Pierce Steinberg and Joe Mazzariello both pitched one inning and allowed one hit apiece. Senior Matt Fox pitched one hitless inning, issuing two walks and recording one strikeout.
The Cardinals will travel to play Middlebury at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday. The Cadets will host Lasell for a doubleheader Friday beginning at 2 p.m.
Castleton 16, Plymouth State 10
RINDGE, N.H. — Davis Mikell had three hits and Josh Ferro homered to lead Castleton to a 16-10 win over Plymouth State in a game played at Franklin Pierce University on Tuesday.
The Spartans' 14-hit attack was aided with 11 base on balls and four Plymouth State errors.
Cameron Goulet picked up the win, pitching five innings for Castleton.
Castleton, 13-14 overall, will host Southern Maine in a doubleheader on Saturday.

LONG MEADOWN, Mass. — Tori Swaine, had three hits, including a home run and six RBIs as Castleton stopped Bay Path 20-0 in game one of a Tuesday doubleheader.
Castleton won Game 2, 19-1, with Swaine finishing the day with nine RBIs.
Kylie Wright pitched a four-hit shutout in the opener and also helped herself with three hits.
Miranda Fish and Makenna Thorne also had three hits as the Spartans pounded out 24 in the five-inning, mercy-rule win.
Olivia Bowen lost a shutout bid in the nightcap when her own error led to a Bay Path run as Castleton completed the sweep.
Fish led the offense with four hits and four RBIs. Swaine added three hits and three RBIs.
Castleton improves to 10-15.
