Spaulding players and coaches accept the Division II Sportsmanship Award during halftime of the state championship game in Burlington.

First-year Spaulding boys lacrosse coach Ian Thomas and many of his players were showered with awards when the All-State and Lake Division All-Star teams were announced Wednesday.

Crimson Tide attacker Travis Roy and midfielder Cam Gosselin nabbed First Team honors for both All-State and Lake Division teams. Thomas was named Coach of the Year in each category after completing his first year with the team. The Tide (12-2) recorded their best record in program history, marking a huge turnaround after Spaulding only won two games from 2013-2017. Spaulding opened the season by defeating Division I Rutland and later claimed one of the program’s only victories over 2018 D-II champ Harwood. The Crimson Tide capped a season sweep over eventual D-II champion Stowe, locking up the first No. 1 seed for the post-season in the team’s 27-year history.

“This was an amazing season,” Thomas said. “It was one to remember and build on next year.”

Green Mountain Valley School standout Jackson Jewell and Harwood veteran Ely Kalkstein also made the All-State First Team. All-State Second Team selections included Harwood’s Jake Wells, Jake Lynn, Gavin Thomsen and Sully O’Hara. They were joined by Stowe’s Noah Levine and Spaulding’s Owen Barr.

Area players on the Lake Division First team are Roy, Gosselin, Wells, Kalkstein, O’Hara, Levine and Stowe teammate Jace Boerger. Lynn and Thomsen earned spots on the Lake Division Second Team, which also includes Montpelier’s Quinn Mills, Stowe’s Jake Ramos and Spaulding’s Heath Atwood and Aiden Blouin.
