Walt Amses' extreme dislike for Donald Trump should be well-known to anyone who reads The Times Argus but now he has added some Christian leaders who support Donald Trump, for his verbal attacks.
Walt says the president, Christian leaders and the GOP have entered into an unholy trinity. Walt, there is little holiness in our political parties. I suspect Christian leaders are supporting the best of the flawed candidates. They are not nominating Donald Trump for sainthood, just supporting him for president. This is not a surprise to me because few national political leaders have paid attention to this group of citizens. Religious leaders are also citizens and can, and should, support those who will support some of their values.
I am puzzled by Walt's continued written attacks on Donald Trump in a state where it is highly unlikely Vermont voters will ever vote for Donald Trump for president. He is preaching to the choir.
At this bend in the road, the saying about “death and taxes” come into the forefront of my old and tired mind. It is usually attributed to Benjamin Franklin who wrote in a 1789 letter “Our new Constitution is now established, and has an appearance that promises permanency; but in this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes.” I wish to expand on that saying and hope Ben will not be too upset. Let's add “negative critics.”
