It was good to hear what a valuable service the owner of Central Market on Summer Street, Mickey Kevin, offered Barre and sad to hear of its demise. However, we have a chance to re-create a great neighborhood grocery store experience with none other than Granite City Grocery. Surely, with a community-owned (the real meaning of cooperative, not "expensive") and professionally run local store open to all, we can again have a walkable downtown grocery that offers us affordable, local and healthy food.

Come join us GCG volunteers to help get this grocery open. Look online (, attend a meeting, respond to calls for volunteers, come to the annual meeting May 29. We need a Central Market replacement.
