It was with great interest that I read about the student activists interrupting our Vermont lawmakers as they were doing “the people’s business” at the State House.

At age 81 (believe me, folks, it ain’t much fun), I and my generation are heading over the horizon and leaving behind a slew of terrible messes, none more pressing than climate change. I was very happy to see this demonstration by the young people we are leaving behind to suffer the consequences of our transgressions. I hope they continue to press lawmakers here and everywhere to quit sitting on their collective hands and take some serious steps to repair the endangered biosphere that supports life on our planet. I would also hope that the gaggle of Democratic presidential hopefuls would start making climate change their up-front issue because we all know that Trump won’t.
