The legalization of the advertising and sale of recreational marijuana in Vermont will kill people.
Last year, there were five people killed on our highways by people driving under the influence of alcohol, nine people killed by drivers operating under the influence of just marijuana and seven more people were killed by drivers operating under the influence of marijuana plus some other drug.
The legalization of the advertising and sale of recreational marijuana will cause an increase in the use of marijuana and, with that increase, there will be an increase in the number of fatal accidents. Since legalization was approved in other states, like Washington and Colorado, there have been increases in the consumption of marijuana and with it, an increase in the number of people killed on their roads by drivers operating under the influence of marijuana.
No amount of tax revenue can justify the increases in mental illness and death the proposed legislation will cause.
