In only five paragraphs, Kimberly Cheney’s “Carbon tax needed” letter-to-the-editor on Nov. 5 eviscerates Rob Roper’s 12-paragraph anti-carbon tax commentary on Nov. 1 and, coincidentally, John McClaughry’s similar 16-paragraph commentary on Nov. 5.
It takes a lot of words and obfuscation to justify why we should ignore science and surrender the health and welfare of the future to the corporate oligarchy and fossil fuel industry but that is the GOP (Greed Oppression Plunder) agenda. Mr. Roper and Mr. McClaughry make clear their GOP credentials.
I don’t know if Mr. Roper and Mr. McClaughry have children and/or grandchildren but I do know Mr. Cheney cares about kids and their future and is willing to pay to help make it better.
The one correction I need to point out regarding Mr. Cheney’s letter is the song lyrics he printed (“I see trees of green, red roses, too…”) are from “What a Wonderful World” written by Bob Thiele and George David Weiss and made popular by Louis Armstrong. Mr. Cheney attributed the lyrics to Sam Cooke’s ‘Wonderful World’ (“Don’t know much about history, don’t know much biology …”). For the record, both songs are classic.
