After reading about the proposed $48.5 million budget for the Barre schools, I found it quite amusing we have some school board members who think they can keep dipping in the pockets of taxpayers who will go right along with it.

I would put money on the fact their proposed budget will go down in flames on Town Meeting Day which will add to the bottom line as another trip to the polls costs money.

In a time where most businesses are doing more with less, it is about time for the schools to look at doing the same. You can talk about education costs and per pupil cost but the bottom line is there are too few paying for too many. A majority of the increase is tied to increases in salary and benefits. Well, who negotiated the contracts that brought the increases with it?

As one board member said, "it is what it is." We will keep that in mind when March 3 rolls around.
