Thanks for the weekend edition's editorial, "You're an idiot." It's about time that more Americans get serious about fulfilling their obligation as citizens of a democracy.

If I could add a couple of lines to the editorial: "You're an idiot if you let the evangelical right influence your vote. Ralph Reed and his acolytes, perhaps unwittingly, although I doubt it, are advocating government by religion, by mythology, by denial of scientific fact, by mind control, by fear."

A commentary in a recent New York Times, "God's Red Army," is an insightful reminder of why religious rhetoric should not be a factor in the voting booth. I'm pretty sure that Pope Francis would agree with me, contrary to the evangelicals' assertion that His Holiness supported Jerry Falwell Jr.'s "dream president" in 2016.
