The Times Argus editorial of Aug. 16, “Yes, we are the enemy” is apparently an effort by the press corps (published in about 350 newspapers) to designate themselves as truth-tellers and fact-checkers hoping to regain the media’s truth-telling high ground they once had. The article even quotes Abraham Lincoln: “I am a firm believer in the people, if given the truth they can be depended upon to meet any national crisis. The great point is to bring them the real facts.”
While many important points were made in that editorial, there are two glaring examples where the press provided the people with false facts on some very important news items:— Iraq. The press gave us fake facts about Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction provided by the Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld administration to initiate the invasion of Iraq and create their never-ending wars in the Middle East. — Sept. 11, 2001. If Marjorie Pritchard, editorial page editor of The Boston Globe, and other journalists really want to expose fake facts, they could start by informing “the people” about how the three World Trade Center high-rise buildings could violate Newton’s laws of physics by collapsing straight down in less than 12 seconds each, and thereby become the “New Pearl Harbor” that the Bush administration needed as a pretext for the invasion of Afghanistan. Over 3,000 licensed architects and engineers are still demanding a new 9/11 investigation (see ae911truth.org). It is ironic that journalists still cling to the oft-repeated mantra that fires, jet crashes and hijackers brought down the buildings and yet they still claim to be credible reporters.
Anyone who has ever observed the controlled demolition of a high-rise building should be able to recognize that the collapse of the 47-story WTC Building 7 (late in the afternoon of 9/11) was, in fact, a perfect conventional (starting the demolition at the bottom) controlled demolition. CBS and NBC’s historic news videos of that 6.5-second collapse of Building 7 can still be viewed at www.wtc7.org.
The official 9/11 story is the basis for the War on Terror and not until a sufficient number of journalists, and editors from those 350 newspapers can find the courage to shine the light of truth on the events of 9/11 will we be able to turn around this destructive path that our country is now on.
