Robert L. Barney rites EAST MONTPELIER — A Mass of Christian Burial to honor and celebrate the life of Robert L. Barney, 91, of VT Route 14, was held on Saturday, June 1, 2019, at 11 a.m. in St. Monica Catholic Church in Barre. He passed away on May 28, 2019. The Rev. Leopold J. Bilodeau, former pastor of the church, was the celebrant. Crucifer, Fred Letourneau, was altar server and led the Prayer of the Faithful. Organist and soloist, Rosemary Badeau, accompanied vocalists, Cece Barber and Ronald Routhier, in the hymns, “The Lord Is My Shepherd,” “Just a Closer Walk with Thee,” “Amazing Grace,” “Song of Farewell” and “How Great Thou Art.” Steve Edwards, a close family friend, offered words of remembrance. Father Bilodeau led a prayer service with the family Saturday morning at the Pruneau-Polli Funeral Home in Barre. Scripture readings from the Old Testament were read by Caleb Carrien, a great-grandson; and Sue Martin, a granddaughter, read scriptures from the New Testament. Father Bilodeau read the Gospel and delivered the homily. The offertory gifts were presented at the altar by Candace Rogers, granddaughter; Caleb Carrien, great-grandson; and Bradham Banks, a grandson; as well as other grandchildren. Pallbearers were Rick Barney and David Barney, both sons; Sue Martin, granddaughter; Eric Barney, Thane Martin and Jon Rogers, grandsons; Caleb Carrien, great-grandson; and Corey Banks; a family friend. Burial followed the Mass, in St. Sylvester Cemetery in Lower Websterville, where Father Bilodeau read the committal prayers and gave the final blessing. Following the burial, family and friends gathered at St. Monica’s gathering room for a time of fellowship and refreshments. Arrangements were in the care of the Pruneau-Polli Funeral Home, 58 Summer St., Barre.
