Robert James Pirie TORRINGTON, Conn. - Robert James Pirie, of Torrington, Connecticut, passed away surrounded by family on Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2018, at the age of 79. Robert was born June 23, 1939, in Barre, Vermont, to Gordon and Olive (Menard) Pirie. He resided in Torrington for the past 15 years. Prior to that, he lived in Loxahatchee, Florida, and in Watertown, Connecticut. While residing in Watertown, he served in the Volunteer Fire Department for many years. Robert married Gwendolyn (Churchill) in 1959, and they had four children. Robert is survived by his sons Jonathan and wife Lucille, of Morenci, Arizona, Robert J. and wife Donna, of Watertown, Randy and wife Renée, of Torrington; a daughter, Tammy Gousby, of Knoxville, Tennessee; his sister, Margaret Clark, of Vermont; and seven grandchildren. Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Gwendolyn; his parents; his brother, Gordon, of Ohio; and his beloved granddaughter, Brittany, of New Mexico. Robert was a devoted Jehovah’s Witness for the last 26 years and he loved his family and friends. He touched the lives of everyone he met in a positive way with his humor and kind words. A memorial talk will take place on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2018, at 2 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 121 Dibble St., Torrington.
