Maida M. Lasell Covey BARRE — Maida Marian Lasell Covey, age 86, died Thursday, May 2, 2019, in the presence of family and friends. Maida was born June 7, 1932, in Barre, to Horace H. Lasell and Esther Cheney Lasell. She grew up on the Lasell Farm on South Hill in Williamstown, with her siblings. She was predeceased by her parents and siblings John Lasell, Alice Guyette and Winston Lasell. Surviving siblings include Edah Osgood, of Pine City, New York, Morris and Brenda Lasell, Stanley Lasell and Lenora and Norman Larkin, all of Williamstown. She is also survived by her children Lanny and Leslie Covey, Linda and Timothy Sterner, Maria Jean Covey, Michael and Patty Covey and Francis and Connie Covey; 22 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. She attended a one-room schoolhouse on South Hill in Williamstown, then graduated from Williamstown High School. During high school, Maida participated in chorus. She and her sisters, Edah and Lenora, sang together on WDEV radio station on occasion, and in a talent show at the Paramount Theater. Maida was married in 1950 and worked in the hospitality industry for many years. Her memorial service will be held Saturday, May 11, 2019, at 10 a.m. at the Montpelier VFW, 1 Pioneer St., Montpelier. After the service, there will be a pot-luck meal. Coffee, tea and lemonade will be provided. Please bring a dish to pass. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Montpelier Church of Christ, P.O. Box 70, Williamstown, VT 05679. Please earmark any donation “In honor of Maida Covey/Gander Brook Christian Camp Fund.” Kingston Funeral Home in Northfield assisted the family with arrangements.
