Leona M. MacAskill rites WILLIAMSTOWN — A Mass of Christian Burial to honor and celebrate the life of Leona M. MacAskill, 90, of Pheonix, Arizona and formerly of Williamstown was held on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at 11 a.m. in St. Monica Catholic Church in Barre. She passed away on March 31, 2019 at the Sunshine Village Memory Care in Phoenix, Arizona. Phyllis MacAskill, a cousin, was the greeter. Rev. Romanus Igweonu, Parochial Vicar of the church, was the celebrant assisted by her son-in-law, Reverend Mr. Al Homiski, Deacon. Crucifer Thomas Prindiville was the altar server. Organist Rosemary Badeau accompanied vocalists, Ronald Routhier and Paul Plante in the hymns, “Be Still My Soul,” “The Lord Is My Light,” “Alleluia,” “On Eagles Wings” and “Song of Farewell.” Soloist Rosemary Badeau sang “Ave Maria.” Words of remembrance were shared by her son, David MacAskill. Scripture readings from the Old and New Testaments were read by her daughter, Donna Homiski. Deacon Homiski read the Gospel, delivered the Homily and led the Prayer of the Faithful. Offertory gifts were presented at the altar by her son David MacAskill and daughter-in-law, Lucie MacAskill. Pallbearers were Tim Plant, Chris MacAskill, Scott MacAskill, Aaron MacAskill, Rod MacAskill and Tim MacAskill. Burial followed the Mass at the Williamstown Village Cemetery in Williamstown, where Deacon Homiski read the Committal Prayers and gave the final blessing. Following the burial family and friends gathered at the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #1391 in Williamstown, for a time of fellowship and refreshments. Arrangements were in the care of the Pruneau-Polli Funeral Home, 58 Summer St., Barre, VT.
