Judith A. Hoffman WILLIAMSTOWN – Judith Bowser Hoffman, 76, passed away on Friday, November 2, 2018 at her home with her daughter at her bedside. Born January 15, 1942 in Cortland, OH, she was the daughter of William and Mary (Sutter) Bowser. Judith was one of four children. Her childhood was spent on the family farm where she remembers sneaking off to read books under an enormous willow tree. Judith attended elementary school in Cortland, OH and graduated class valedictorian from Mecca High School in 1959. After moving to Vermont in 1963, she attended Goddard College, where she obtained both her Bachelors and Masters of Arts. She never took a class without achieving an “A”. Judith was employed as an elementary school teacher in Randolph for many years before retiring in 2008. Throughout her career she believed in providing a more effective and creative education by honoring children’s own interests and activities. She was an avid bird watcher and participated in many bird watching activities around Vermont. In her retirement Judith was a passionate gardener and maintained extensive perennial and vegetable gardens. Her artwork, particularly weaving and painting, demonstrated her great love for the garden. Survivors include her daughter, Hilary Hoffman and her husband, Jesper Holtenman of Stowe and their children Johan and Anders Holtenman; her brother William Bowser and his wife, Tilly Bowser of Warren, OH: her sister Karen Manes of Cortland, OH; as well as her former husband, Robert Hoffman and his wife, Cary Brodzinski of West Danville. A private family service will be held at a later date in Stowe. Memorial contributions may be made to Audubon Vermont, 255 Sherman Hollow Road, Huntington, VT 05462. The Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street, Barre assisted the Hoffman family with the arrangements. For a memorial guestbook, visit www.hookerwhitcomb.com
