Ivar W. Steen NORTHFIELD - Ivar W. Steen, age 95, died Friday, December 21, 2018 at the Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin after a brief illness. Mr. Steen was born December 31, 1922 in Kearny, NJ, the son of Walter and Alva (Phillipson) Steen. He grew up in Mt. Arlington, NJ and after he graduated from Boonton, NJ High School, he enlisted in the US Navy and served aboard the USS Corregidor in the South Pacific during World War II. He married Audrey Hermey in Parsippany, NJ on Jun 25, 1948. The couple spent many years in Mystic Island, NJ. They moved to Vermont four years ago to be near family. Mr. Steen worked as a business executive in the welding business for many years. Mr. Steen was a devout fisherman and following his retirement spent nearly everyday on the New Jersey coast fishing. Surviving are his wife of Northfield, two daughters, Janet L. Ott, Northfield and Bonnie Gillespie of St. Petersburg, FL; and a son, Richard I. Steen of Rutland; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. There is no funeral service planned at this time. Kingston Funeral Home in Northfield assisted the family with arrangements.
