Edward James Cormier MONTPELIER — Edward James Cormier, age 78, passed away on Monday, Sept. 16, 2019, at the Consulate Health Care of Baynonnet Point, Hudson, Florida. Born at Heaton Hospital in Montpelier on Nov. 27, 1940, he was the son of Celina Pinan Cormier and Edward J. Cormier. He grew up and received his education in Montpelier and went on to serve in the Air Force in Alaska as an aircraft mechanic. He returned to Vermont and pursued a career as a cement finisher and mason. He was talented as an auto mechanic, and also in carpentry, plumbing and electrical work. A perfectionist in all phases of construction, he was able to build structures from the ground up, and they would be done right. He loved Vermont and spent summers at Peacham Pond where he had a home for many years. He was previously married to Sandra Taft. Edward is survived by their daughter, Tonya Washburn, of Cambridge; their son, Edward J. Cormier and wife Erin, of East Fairfield; grandchildren Corey Florucci and Tyler Pillsbury Hinesburg, Lia Washburn, Mariah, Kara and Reese Cormier; his sister, Donna Gray; nieces Melissa and Keren Pavese, of Tarpon Springs, Florida. A graveside committal will be planned for next summer in Berlin Cemetery.
