Donald R. Ibey BARRE — Donald R. Ibey, of Barre, passed away at Heaton Woods in the early morning of Aug. 15, 2019, at age 90. Donald was born in Calais on Dec. 17, 1928, to Delbert and Edith (Trombly) Ibey. He grew up on the family farm, the youngest of nine brothers and sisters, and began working at a very early age. Donald served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict. After his honorable discharge from the Army, he was employed with Rock of Ages until his retirement in 1992. Donald married Elizabeth (Kynoch) Ibey Nov. 18, 1950. They raised their family and spent their lives together until her death in 2014. Donald loved music of all kinds, which brought him great joy throughout his life. Donald was predeceased by his three sisters Doris Langevin, Marion Freeman, Genevieve Freeman; and all five of his brothers Gerald, Lloyd, Garvin, Gardner and Lawrence. He is survived by his daughter, Gail (Ibey) Poitras and husband Clay, of Montpelier; three sons Brian Ibey and wife Laura, of Barre Town, Barry Ibey and wife Charlene (Shelly), Richard Ibey and wife Heidi, all of Plainfield; nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. The family would like to express sincere thanks and deepest gratitude to the devoted staff at Heaton Woods and individual caregivers who provided care, companionship and comfort to Donald in the last months of his life.
