Charles E. Chevalier NORTHFIELD — Charles E. Chevalier, 88, passed away at his home on Feb. 20, 2019. He was born in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on Dec. 31, 1930. He was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Ruth Kurpjuweit Chevalier. Charles was a graduate of Pennsylvania State University from which he received his BS and MA degrees. He was an avid supporter of Nittany Lion football and wrestling. Charles was an Air Force veteran, serving in Alaska, and was a captain when he ended his military career, receiving an honorable discharge. He was a professor of mechanical engineering at Penn State and in 1967, joined the faculty at Norwich University. He became a full professor in 1978, and retired in 1990 as an emeritus professor. Charles enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid bird watcher. He hunted, fished and enjoyed photography, especially animals and outdoor scenery. He especially liked partridge hunting. He was predeceased by his brother, Harry R. Chevalier. He is survived by his brother, Gary and wife Pam Chevalier; his sister, Donna Ingram; his sister-in-law, Sharon Chevalier; his nephew, Steven and wife Sharon Ingram; his niece, Michelle Chevalier Aaron and husband Charles. Services will be held later in the spring at Norwich University and Norwich University Cemetery in Northfield. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals at their website www.aspca; or to Norwich University. Kingston Funeral Home is assisting with the arrangements.
