Brian Brooks Patterson MIDDLESEX — Brian Brooks Patterson, 71, retired Navy AMSC, of Brunswick, Maine, formerly of Middlesex, died suddenly on May 28, 2019, from heart-related issues, at his winter home in Oak Hill, Florida. Brian was born May 12, 1948, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, but grew up in Shady Rill, Middlesex, Vermont, with his folks Buzz and Elsa Patterson and his siblings Walt Hall, Pat Patterson McManis, Mike Patterson, Cindy Patterson and Bev Patterson Warren. He loved and lived a simple life. Hunting, fishing, camping, campfires, hanging out at Patterson Brook trying to catch "the big one," helping his folks build log cabins in Shady Rill and riding around the dirt roads of Middlesex and Mount Hunger with his brother, Mike, and close cousin, Steve Patterson, scouting for deer, partridges and just having fun. Those were the "good old days." And, boy, did he love his motorcycle. Along with his brother, Mike, he loved teasing his sibs with love and humor. It was always a comedy show for sure!! Brian developed a strong love of airplanes and flying at a young age so, after graduating from Montpelier High School in 1966, he proudly joined the Navy where he served for 20 years on aircraft carriers maintaining and repairing their aircraft. He was so proud of his Navy career and wore his Chief's uniform with great pride. He received many honors and medals and served his country in the Vietnam War. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion, VFW and Elks Club. Brian also held a commercial pilot license which was a dream of his, soaring through the skies with skilled talent. He would fly "home," give us rides and let us be the co-pilot. Brian raised his two sons Patrick and Jason Patterson, for the most part, in Brunswick, Maine. After retiring from the Navy, he worked at Lockheed Martin traveling around the world on various assignments. Brian also became a Master Electrician working in the Brunswick, Maine, area. Once he finally retired, he continued to enjoy camping, eating lobster and living life to his fullest. Brian Brooks Patterson, such an amazing, gentle, fun-loving son, husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend to all. We salute you, Brian, with pride, tears and happy, happy memories. You truly were the best of the best in all areas of your life. Brian was predeceased by his folks Buzz and Elsa Patterson; and his beloved and adored wife, Barbara Patterson. He is already tremendously missed by his sons Patrick and Jason Patterson and their families; his five sibs Walter Hall, Pat McManis, Mike Patterson, Cindy Patterson, Bev Warren and their families; as well as his close cousin, Steve Patterson; and all of his lifelong friends. We love you, Brian, and can imagine you up in heaven building log cabins and flying among the stars. "Fair Winds and Following Seas" A Fall military burial will take place in Green Mount Cemetery, Montpelier, Vermont where he will be buried with his parents. We will toast your colorful life, Brian, with a shot of your favorite "Hot Dam." Forever, you will be loved and never forgotten.
