Bernard Lee Flanagan BARRE — Bernard Lee Flanagan, 66, of Bailey Street, died on Sunday, Feb. 24, 2019, at his home. He was born on March 17, 1952, the son of Billy K. and Gloria (Acker) Flanagan. He attended the VanWert High School in VanWert, Ohio, graduating in 1970. On Nov. 7, 1980, Bernie enlisted into the United States Navy where he served until his honorable discharge in 1984. On Oct. 19, 1985, Bernie married Marsha Bellows in Wahiawa, Hawaii. Both he and Marsha lived in many places throughout the world as a military family and settled in the central Vermont area in 1998. Marsha predeceased him on Aug. 3, 2005. Bernie was a longtime employee of the Walmart in Berlin and was known for his friendly nature and kindness to all. Christmas was a special time for him. Santa Claus had a striking resemblance to Bernie, when he would visit the Berlin Mall at Christmas!!!! Survivors include his sister, Shelly Smith and husband Les, of Celina, Ohio; and his caregivers Mitchell and Amy Greenslit. Calling hours will be held 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 6, at the Guare & Sons Funeral Home. I am so sad. I loved Bernie. He always had a treat for my dog Raisin. He even watched her a couple times while I looked for my Mom at Walmart. I am heartbroken and so sorry for all in his family.
