WINOOSKI, Vt. (AP) — Police in Vermont say a man crossing a street was hit by a car and is in critical condition.

Police say the 74-year-old man was crossing a Winooski street Wednesday night when he was hit. WCAX-TV reports the area does not have a crosswalk and the man was wearing dark clothes.

Authorities say alcohol and speed do not appear to be factors, but an investigation is underway. Police are asking people to wear bright clothes when walking at night.
