BARNET — A Groton man has been arrested in North Carolina after allegedly committing sexual assaults on a minor in Barnet last year.

Vermont State Police arrested 51-year-old Donald Tobin after an investigation into a series of alleged sexual assaults on a child, a news release said.

Police said further investigation revealed Tobin had left the state but was located by detectives in Havelock, North Carolina, on April 5.

On the same day, police applied for and were granted a $50,000 bail warrant for Tobin’s arrest and permission to extradite him back to Vermont.

Later that day, Tobin was taken into custody by Havelock police officers and Craven County sheriff’s deputies without incident. He is currently detained in North Carolina pending extradition proceedings.
