MONTPELIER – Police responded to a report of a possible pipe bomb in the Capital City on Saturday.

Montpelier Police Department officers responded at 8:20 a.m. to a report of a suspicious item near 350 River Street, close to Fecteau Homes.

MPD officers found the item, which was about one foot long, made of PVC pipe and sealed with caps at both ends.

The Vermont State Police Bomb Squad were summoned to examine the item while precautionary measures were taken.

Police said investigation revealed the item was a watertight container containing trailer paperwork that likely fell while in transit.
