WILLIAMSTOWN – Vermont State Police say a Barre man had dogs living in poor conditions without access to food or water.

Police said a report was made Aug. 3 stating dogs were running loose in the roadway. Police arrived to find a larger dog violently attacking a smaller dog inside the home. Inside, police said they found the dog that had been attacked was dead and there were seven other dogs living at the home.

Police said the dogs were dehydrated and covered in urine and feces. They were removed from the home.

Anthony Matarazzo, 31, was responsible for taking care of the dogs, according to police. Matarazzo is scheduled to appear in Orange County criminal court Sept. 11 to answer eight counts of animal cruelty.
