MONTPELIER — Two pedestrians — including the wife of a former Washington County state senator — were injured in a car accident in the Capital City on Saturday.

Police responded at 5:38 p.m. to the accident on Main Street and said Jonah Bronstein, of Calais, was traveling south on Main Street when he struck Janet Kacewicz, 64, and Olene Doyle, 86, both of Montpelier.

Police said a preliminary investigation revealed that the two pedestrians were struck as they crossed the road from the Savoy Theater but were not in a crosswalk.

The injured were taken to Central Vermont Medical Center, which said on Monday that Kacewicz was treated and released while Doyle remains in stable condition.

Doyle is the wife of former Washington County Sen. Bill Doyle.

Police said speed and alcohol or drugs do not appear to be factors in the accident.
