BARRE — A Massachusetts man has been placed on probation for forcing himself on a woman.

Clayton R. Burdick, 38, of Plymouth, Massachusetts, pleaded guilty Tuesday in Washington County criminal court to a misdemeanor count of prohibited conduct. Burdick was sentenced to 30 days to 180 days, all suspended, and placed on probation. He had been facing a felony count of lewd and lascivious conduct, but the charge was amended by the state per the plea agreement.

Detective Sgt. Aimee Nolan, of the Vermont State Police, said in her affidavit a woman came to the Middlesex barracks in May 2017 to report she had an encounter with a co-worker that made her uncomfortable. The woman told Nolan that Burdick had been asked by his and the woman’s boss to go to the boss’ residence in Waitsfield to pick something up.

She said Burdick asked her to come with him so she would know where the boss lived in case she ever needed to go there because Burdick was moving out of the state soon, according to the affidavit.

During the ride, the woman told Nolan, Burdick was drinking beer and talking about issues he was having with his wife. She said he also asked her if she wanted to go see his child play in a baseball game, which she thought was strange because she and Burdick had only talked at work.

The woman told Nolan when they got to the residence Burdick talked about going into his boss’ bedroom and taking a picture on his bed. She said while they were looking for something near the dining room table he told her to bend over the table so he could take a picture of it and send it to their boss.

She told Nolan she refused multiple times, but he grabbed her by the collar of her shirt and bent her over the table. The woman said he then pinned her to the table using his body and pressed his groin against her backside. The woman told Nolan she repeatedly told Burdick to get off of her and to stop.

She said he did back away from her and they drove back to work.
