BARRE — A Granite City man who admitted possession of child pornography was placed on probation after a hearing in Washington County criminal court Monday.

Daniel L. Lambert, 71, pleaded guilty in September to a felony count of possession of child pornography. Lambert was sentenced to one to four years, all suspended, and placed on probation. If he violates his probation, Lambert could be sentenced to four years in prison. The state agreed to drop a felony count of promoting a sexual recording of a child per the plea agreement.

Lambert must also pay $147 in court fees and abide by conditions that include he not purchase, possess or consume alcohol; not drive with alcohol in his system and comply with the requirements of electronic monitoring. Lambert must also undergo alcohol and mental health screenings and register with the Sex Offender Registry.

In an affidavit, Vermont State Police Detective Sgt. Daniel Trotter said the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received a tip about a file of suspected child pornography. Trotter said the file was picked up during a search on Bing. He said he reviewed the image, which appeared to be an exposed 5-year-old girl.

The image was posted on Jan. 25, 2018, using a Charter Communications IP address, according to court records. Trotter said a subpoena issued for the address showed it was issued to Lambert, who lives on Fairview Street.

On April 6, Trotter received another tip from NCMEC stating four images of suspected child pornography were posted on the image-collecting website Pinterest. The website reported the user who uploaded the images was Lambert, using the same IP address as the one used to post the image in January, court documents say.

Trotter said the four images were publicly available, and three of them showed underage girls who were naked.

He obtained a search warrant for Lambert’s home on May 29 and executed it on June 1, according to the affidavit.

Lambert was home and invited investigators inside. Trotter said Lambert initially denied knowing anything about the reported child pornography, but he later admitted to searching for such images in the past and said the behavior had been going on for three or four years, court records say.

While conducting the search of Lambert’s home, Trotter said investigators found a Kindle tablet computer with 43 images of suspected child pornography.
