MONTPELIER — Capital City officials issued a warning that potential flooding could start Friday and run through the weekend.

Warmer temperatures are expected to melt snow and ice and possibly cause ice jams in the Winooski, North Branch and Stevens Branch rivers, which might cause flooding in downtown Montpelier.

Business owners and residents are advised to prepare basements that routinely flood and remove stored property that may be damaged by water.

The warning is advisory only and updates will be issued, officials said.
