MONTPELIER — A Barre man is accused of selling cigarettes illegally.

According to the Vermont Department of Liquor and Lottery, on June 4 an investigator found illegal activity taking place in a parking lot on North Main Street in Barre. The investigation included the seizure of over 7,000 individual cigarettes which were in the possession of Douglas J. Bergeron, 59. The department said Bergeron bought the cigarettes in New York and brought them to Vermont to sell without paying any tax on them.

He is scheduled to appear in Washington County criminal court July 18 to answer the charge of possession with intent to sell untaxed cigarettes.
