BARRE — A Barnet teen is accused of raping two girls.
Terrence Hebert, 16, pleaded not guilty Thursday in Washington County criminal court in Barre to two felony counts of sexual assault without consent. If convicted, Hebert faces a maximum sentence of life in prison and a minimum sentence of three years. He was released on conditions.
Trooper James Vooris, of the Vermont State Police, said in his affidavit on Aug. 15 Vooris received a report about a 15-year-old girl in the custody of the Department for Children and Families. Vooris said the girl reported she had been raped by Hebert. He said the alleged victim told investigators she never said anything before because she was scared and didn’t know how to report it.
She decided to come forward because she learned that a friend of hers, another 15-year-old girl, had also been raped by Hebert, according to court records.
Vooris said the first alleged victim was interviewed on Aug. 17 at OUR House in Barre. He said she became emotional and was crying when she told investigators she was dating Hebert and ran away to stay at a house in Northfield owned by Hebert’s family. The victim told investigators she was sleeping one night when she woke up Hebert was sexually assaulting her. Vooris said the victim reported she told Hebert to stop but he didn’t and made her do things she didn’t want to do.
He said the victim reported Hebert forced her to perform a sex act on him. She told investigators Hebert told her if she didn’t do it then he would kick her out.
Vooris said the victim reported Hebert would sexually assault her more times than she could count and it had been going on for about a year, starting in October 2017 when she was 14 years old.
She told investigators about another incident when she was at Hebert’s friend’s home when she woke up and discovered Hebert was having sex with her.
On Sept. 5 Vooris said he spoke with the second alleged victim. She told investigators she had gone to see the first victim at Hebert’s residence in Northfield and at one point Hebert tried to have sex with her but she didn’t want to. The second victim reported she kept telling Hebert “No” and “Stop,” but he wouldn’t listen. She told investigators Hebert held her down and had sex with her.
