Student news

Clark University spring 2019 dean’s list named Elizabeth I. Tchantouridze, of Barre, Mariah A. Gomes, Maya S. Mashkuri, both of Montpelier, to first honors and Wynne C. Plagge, of Waterbury, to second honors.

Rice Memorial High School graduates include Lisa McNamara and Jaycee Martin, of Barre. McNamara also received the Robert A. Brown Excellence in English Award, Girls Field Hockey Sports Award, Girls Ice Hockey Sports Award, and named Overall Outstanding Female Athlete and VPA Scholar-Athlete. Martin earned the Girls Prep Hockey Sports Award and was named a VPA Scholar-Athlete.

Isaiah Norton, of Randolph Technical Career Center, and Shapleigh “Shap” Andrew, of North Country Career Center in Newport, were among this year’s recipients of Land Stewards Awards from Vermont Land Trust, recognizing outstanding high school juniors and seniors who are dedicated to agriculture and forestry.

Isabel Hall, of Fairmont Farms in East Montpelier, received an Agri-Mark post-secondary education scholarship of $1,000.

American Legion scholarship recipients include: Austin Jarvis, a Northfield Middle High School student, with Department Commander’s David Woodward $1,000 Scholarship; and Andre Latulippe, Harwood Union High School student, with a Department of Vermont $500 Award.

Barre Town School students Abigail Lindhiem, Paige Allen and Madison Pembroke recently joined the statewide SEEDS Summer Leadership Training Program held at Northern Vermont University-Lyndon, sponsored by Vermont Student Assistance Corp. and funded by its federal GEAR UP grant.

Military news

Army Staff Sgt. Johnathan E. Hencke has reported for duty as a Recruiter with U.S. Army Recruiting Station-Lewistown, Pennsylvania, U.S. Army Recruiting State College-Company, Pennsylvania. Hencke is a 2004 graduate of Northfield High School.

Twin sisters Lt. Col. (Retired) Lynn Currier and Master Sgt. Lisa Currier, of Troy, New York, formerly of Barre, are retiring from the New York Army National Guard. They have been members of the Vermont and New York Army National Guard for over 33 years each.

U.S. Air Force Airman Hannah Percy graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas. Percy is the daughter of Bridget and Paul Grime, wife of Dakotah Percy, of Waterford, and a 2013 graduate of St. Johnsbury Academy.
