Public Notice Vermont State Housing Authority Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program Beginning August 1, 2019, Vermont State Housing Authority (VSHA) will be opening its waiting list for the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program to receive applications from families qualifying for VSHA’s Mainstream Voucher Program. An eligible family will be composed of one or more non-elderly person with disabilities (meeting HUD’s definition of disability) and be a person 18 years of age or older and less than 62 years of age. Eligible applicants will be ranked against VSHA’s preference system, which includes the following: 1. Applicants transitioning out of an institution or other segregated settings, or are at serious risk of institutionalization, are homeless, or at risk of becoming homeless. Verification of eligibility will be obtained upon selection from the waitlist; 2. Applicants residing in Vermont - This preference is available for applicants who either live or work in the state of Vermont and can prove residency through a verified current address or verification from an employer. Additionally, VSHA’s waiting list continues to be open for the Project-Based Voucher Programs and for those families qualifying for the Move-On Preference (Transitional Housing Preference) and Disaster Preference. Applications may be obtained by visiting VSHA’s website at and clicking on Application for Rental Assistance. Applications can also be obtained at our office located at One Prospect Street, Montpelier, VT between the hours of 8:00 am – 4:00 pm. Monday – Friday, or by contacting VSHA’s intake office at 802-828-1991. This Notice is being provided in accordance with VSHA’s Administrative Plan for the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program, which mandates the Authority to provide public notice when opening its waiting list.
