Man tasered following alleged domestic assaultBy Brent Curtis
A Rutland man who police say they had to use a Taser on to subdue during a domestic fight denied in court Monday six criminal charges related to the incident.
Ralph C. Page Jr., 43, pleaded innocent in Rutland criminal court to two felony counts of first degree aggravated domestic assault as well as a misdemeanor charge of resisting arrest and three charges of violating court ordered conditions of release related to another pending offense.
Judge Nancy Corsones set bail at $25,000 for Page who posted the amount and was released after his arraignment on conditions that he not harass the woman involved in the incident or consume alcohol. The judge also imposed a 24-hour, seven day a week curfew for Page at his 100 Moonshine Lane residence in Shrewsbury.
Page was arrested Thursday night after police were called to an apartment at 104 Forest St. in the city where a woman told officers that Page struck her repeatedly and tried to choke her.
The woman and another witness told police that Page became enraged during an argument and began assaulting her and at one point held a knife to her throat, according to an affidavit written by Rutland Police.
Officers found Page in a bedroom in the apartment and ordered him to stand up against a wall. When he refused, police say they first tried to physically restrain him and then used a Taser — a device that delivers an electrical charge — to subdue him.
Page and the woman were taken to Rutland Regional Medical Center for evaluation, police said. A breathalyzer test conducted on Page indicated his blood-alcohol content was .115 percent — higher than the .08 percent legal limit for defining a DUI in Vermont.
If convicted of all charges, Page could face up to 32 years in jail.
