• Three men charged in thefts

    CLARENDON — Three men are facing charges they were involved in a scheme to steal items from several stores in Bennington.

    Friday afternoon, at the request of Bennington police, state police stopped a 2000 Toyota Corolla on Route 7 south. Bennington Police said the driver and occupants were suspected of stealing from Walmart and Sears.

    Police said the driver, Brian O’Rourke, 20, and Ian Dennis, 18, both of Rutland, had stolen a television, USB router, vacuum cleaner and a weed whacker.

    Both men were charged with possession of stolen property and giving false information to police. O’Rourke was held in Rutland jail on $1,000 bail. Dennis was released.

    A third occupant of the vehicle, Evan Orvis, 21, of Clarendon, was charged with accessory to retail theft before the fact and released. All three are scheduled for arraignment in Rutland criminal court.
