Welch, Cheney tie the knot

To kick off the New Year, Congressman Peter Welch married Vermont state Rep. Margaret Cheney, both Democrats, on Friday.
A Welch spokesman announced the union on Saturday. The ceremony took place at Cheney's home in Norwich with a small gathering of family attending.
Justice of the Peace Curtis Koren of Brookfield and Sister Maureen Welch, an Ursuline nun and Welch's sister, officiated the ceremony.
Cheney, 56, is a Spanish teacher at Sharon Academy and the mother of three children.
She had been an editor at a newspaper in California and at The Washingtonian magazine, as well as a member of the Norwich School Board.
Cheney was first elected to represent the Windsor-Orange district in 2006.
Welch, 61, is a widower and a father of five.
His late wife, Joan Smith, died in 2004. He was elected as Vermont's only U.S. representative in 2006. In 1980, he was elected state representative for Windsor County and served as the president pro tem of the Vermont Senate in 1985 and again from 2003 to 2006.
