EAST MONTPELIER — Gertrude “Gay” (Holmes) Ludlow, 98, died at her home in East Montpelier on Aug. 29, 2014.
She was born Dec. 6, 1915, in Jersey City, New Jersey, one of nine children.
She worked as a telephone operator at Bell Telephone until her marriage in 1954 to Arty Ludlow. They had lived in Staten Island, New York, and Lakehurst, New Jersey.
In 2009, she and her husband moved to Vermont to live with their daughter. He died in 2011.
She is survived by her daughter, Maryann; a grandson; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
A wake will be held from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, at Guare and Sons Funeral Home, 30 School St. in Montpelier. A funeral Mass will follow at 11:30 a.m. at St. Augustine Church, 16 Barre St. in Montpelier.
Interment will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, at the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph Center.
