Hearing that the state wants to make cuts in the Agency of Human Services, I came across an idea. We hear about all the monies sitting in the treasury department of unclaimed money, to the tune of $64 million. And a lot of it is years old. And most of it is too damn hard to claim anyway (you need a lifetime of paperwork to prove who you are). Why, then, don’t they put a cap in claiming it of five years? If, after that, it is not claimed, it goes back to the state just for human services departments. After all, it is the people’s money. I totally see this as very doable and very helpful and an end to a lot of cuts from people who need it the most. End of that problem, at least for few years if spent wisely.
