CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. — Patricia “Pat” Cioffi, 78, of 6 Stonegate Road, died on Sunday, Aug. 10, 2014, at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady.
She was born on Aug. 5, 1936, in Websterville, Vermont, to the late Howard and Kathleen (Fitzgerald) Byrns.
Mrs. Cioffi was a 1954 graduate of Spaulding High School in Barre, Vermont. She earned a bachelor’s degree in teaching from Castleton State Teachers College in 1958, where she was elected Winter Carnival Queen in her senior year. She went on to be crowned the Cherry Blossom Princess of Vermont, representing her home state in a visit with first lady Mamie Eisenhower at the White House. Mrs. Cioffi began her career as a teacher in Chester, Vermont, and retired from the Shenendehowa Central School District as an English teacher in 1991.
She was active in town politics, instrumental in the development of the CAPTAIN program, and a member of the Country Knolls Women’s Association and the League of Women Voters. In retirement years she enjoyed traveling, gardening, working at the Clifton Park Senior Center, and spending time with her five grandchildren.
She is predeceased by her husband of 53 years, James “Jack” Cioffi, and her brother, Daniel Byrns.
She is survived by daughters Sarah Cioffi, of Scotia, and Stephanie (Jorge) Franke, of Orefield, Pennsylvania; grandchildren Evan, James and Samuel Franke, and Sophia Constantino and Lucy Crounse, of Scotia.
Calling hours are 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 14, 2014, at Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home.
A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 11:30 a.m. at Corpus Christi Church on Route 9 in Ushers, New York. Burial will be in Jonesville Cemetery.
