• No complaints?
    August 13,2014

It’s Saturday afternoon, and before I sit down to complain over what I read in The Times Argus I’d better reflect on an issue raised at our meeting yesterday. It dealt with encouragement through team building concepts. Earlier today I had a (little) opportunity to work with a community action team from Green Mountain Coffee Roasters cleaning up refuse from a river’s edge in Barre. Coming down Route 302 at that time was the Toy Run, that traditional conglomerate of motorcyclists from all over the country. An impressive sight and a great cause. For a moment my thoughts centered on the public exposure of such an event — airtime on WCAX-TV and possibly front-page coverage in The Times Argus, but how many people know what the “CAT” teams from GMCR, Ben & Jerry’s, Bond Auto and the COAT team from Washington County Mental Health Services do for the community at large without much fanfare? The encouragement I receive is to know that there are more businesses than noted here that are advancing their socio-economic mission statements in addition to their profit margins — showing real and practical ways of loving their neighbors. I’m also a bit proud to have several of my children and stepchildren directly involved in the process.

Now, back to my complaining. Wait a minute. God always had something to say about complainers, didn’t he? As I recall, it wasn’t a very pretty picture.
