    Feeling let down

    The following is from a letter to Sen. Leahyís senior foreign policy analyst:

    I have been completely baffled, no, the right word is horrified, by the U.S. governmentís complicity in the massacre taking place in Gaza. ... I was part of a womenís peace delegation to Gaza this spring. We were detained and deported from Cairo. Our baby clothes and solar lanterns never made it to the Gazan women. I carried a letter of support from Senator Leahy for that mission. How can he have approved of this invasion by Israel? Has he made any statement condemning Israelís actions? Surely, I must have missed it.

    It looks like the strategy for Israel is to kill as many civilians as possible to crush the people of Gaza, not just their elected Hamas government. U.N. schools, hospitals, apartment buildings, mosques and churches where people are seeking shelter have been fired upon, killing over 1,000 people now. Water treatment plants and power stations have been blown up.

    To me, it is beyond belief that anyone, most especially my Vermont congresspeople, are turning a blind eye to the realities becoming clearer and clearer with each bomb dropped, with each child killed. I feel I no longer have anyone I can vote for. I feel I no longer have a country I believe in. Please tell me I have missed something here.
