SOUTH BURLINGTON — Vermont State Police say it could be several weeks before they finish investigating an accident on Interstate 89 that took the life of a highway worker.
Police believe 61-year-old Robert Stanhope, of Richford, an employee of Whitcomb Construction Company, was removing temporary reflective fog line markers along Interstate 89 on Wednesday when he was struck by a car driven by 22-year-old Emma Gentry of South Burlington.
So far, the state police crime scene search team, its accident reconstruction team and officials from the Vermont Occupational Safety and Health Administration have been involved in the investigation.
Police say when their investigation is done, they’ll turn over what they find to the Chittenden County State’s Attorney’s Office, which will determine if charges are warranted.MORE IN Vermont News
