• Elm Street closed Thursday and Friday
     | July 30,2014

MONTPELIER — A section of Elm Street will be closed both Thursday and Friday this week, to allow for repairs to be made to a brick building at the corner of Elm and School streets, city officials announced.

A problem with the brick facade of the building, which houses the Uncommon Market on the ground floor, was discovered recently when the city was embarking on a sidewalk improvement project. Due to the risk of falling bricks, the sidewalk project had to be postponed until the structural issue was resolved.

City officials had already announced that starting tomorrow and continuing through Friday, Elm Street would be closed to all motor vehicle traffic between the intersection of Langdon Street and the Elm Street/School Street intersection. All businesses will remain open during construction including the Uncommon Market. If deemed safe, the street will be open during the evening, non-work hours of the project.

Information on the project is also available at the City of Montpelier’s website, www.montpelier-vt.org. Questions or concerns can be directed to Christopher Lumbra, building inspector, at 223-9506 or by email at clumbra@montpelier-vt.org.
