Man cited for firing rifle
BARRE — Police say a Plainfield man fired a rifle on Merchants Row in Barre Saturday.
Police say they responded to Gusto’s Bar on Prospect Street for a reported unwanted customer in the parking lot. Upon arrival, police located Edward Bennett, 40, of Calais, and Justin Grant, 22, of Plainfield. Police say Grant was trying to get Bennett, his uncle, to leave, but the pair did not leave.
Police say Bennett then went and started banging on the hood of someone’s car. Police started walking over to Bennett when a fight broke out between Bennett and some other unnamed males. When police were investigating the fight, they say Grant grabbed a High-Point, Model 996, 9 mm rifle, walked over to the crowd and fired a shot in the air.
Police then drew their weapons on Grant and told him to put the rifle down. He refused and an officer got close enough to take Grant to the ground and police removed the rifle from him.
Grant was cited for reckless endangerment.MORE IN This Just In
