East Montpelier selectmen OK roadwork bids
EAST MONTPELIER — The Select Board has approved bids for three projects: paving work on Gallison Hill Road and Quaker and Vincent Flats, and a culvert repair project on Dodge Road.
For the Gallison Hill project, Town Administrator Bruce Johnson said the project has a state paving grant for $110,550, in an 80 percent state, 20 percent local share match. The bid was for $89,381.25. The state will pay up to $88,440 for that project, the town’s records for the project show.
The Select Board approved the low bidder, Whitcomb Construction Corp., for the project.
There is no state assistance for the Quaker and Vincent Flats paving project. The low bid for that project also came from Whitcomb, with a figure of $198,648.
For the Dodge Road culvert project, Bridge 26, the town has a $63,263 Vermont Agency of Transportation Structures Grant to assist with the project, in a 90 percent state-funded, 10 percent local match arrangement, with the state paying up to $56,700, according to the town’s bid sheet information. The low bidder was selected for the work, Dubois Construction Inc., with a bid of $69,286.
The board unanimously approved having Johnson enter into agreements with the contractors for the projects. Johnson, contacted Friday, said he does not yet have start dates for the projects.
According to the background notes for Monday night’s meeting, Johnson noted, “We have approximately $294,000 available for paving this year; we also have $19,500 budgeted for structures grant projects.”MORE IN This Just In
