Putnam Street homes without water overnight
MONTPELIER — Several multifamily residences on Putnam Street, off Barre Street, were without water Friday after a water line broke Thursday evening, a city official said.
Assistant Public Works Director Tom McArdle said bolts had “rotted away,” allowing the break to occur at the connection at one end of the line.
He said it was unclear whether construction work that has started on the street in preparation for paving contributed to the problem, but that the rotted bolts needed replacing anyway. Better it happened now than after the paving project, he said.
The homes on the dead-end street lost their water service when the line broke between 7 and 7:30 p.m. The line was expected to be repaired and water restored late Friday afternoon, McArdle said.
The water line on that street is also a dead end, he said, ending at a fire hydrant.
“They had a little difficulty shutting it down,” said McArdle, adding that repair work started first thing Friday morning.MORE IN This Just In
