BARRE CITY — William James “Bill” Griffith, 51, of Beacon Street, Barre, unexpectedly passed away at his home on Friday, July 4, 2014.
Born in Barre, Vermont, on January 20, 1963, he was the son of Royce and Carol (Fisher) Griffith.
Bill attended Barre City schools and was a graduate of Spaulding High School, class of 1981. As a child, Bill enjoyed family vacations at Woodbury Lake. He attended Vermont Technical College for a year.
On September 19, 1987, he married Donna Miana in St. Monica’s Catholic Church in Barre. Bill and Donna were married for 18 years and had two wonderful children together whom he loved very much.
After having worked for Keebler Cookies & Crackers and Little Debbie, Bill went to work at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Vermont in 2002 and was still employed there at the time of his death.
Survivors include his parents, of Barre; his daughters, Jennifer, of New York City and Emily, of Barre; his brother, Rodney, of Barre; his sister and brother-in-law, Wendy and Daryl Madigan, of Hardwick; his nieces and nephews, Matthew Madigan, Sarah Dutil, Rebecca Somaini, Matthew and Mary-Francis Johnson; aunts, uncles, cousins; and his beloved dog, Brady. Bill was looking forward to the upcoming birth of his first grandchild.
Bill had a contagious personality, lighting up every room he entered. His outgoingness and extraordinary kindness was loved by all his friends and family. Bill was an avid Boston Red Sox fan and New England Patriots fan. He loved to camp, hunt, enjoy the outdoors and vacation in Maine. His true joy in life came from spending time with his daughters and watching them grow up. There was no greater happiness to him than being at the ocean with Jennifer and Emily in Wells Beach, Maine.
His daughter, Emily, had recently moved back to Barre to live with Bill and was home with him when he passed.
Bill’s life will be honored and celebrated at the New Shelter at Hubbard Park in Montpelier on Tuesday, July 8, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. Please carpool as parking is limited.
Memorial contributions may be made in Bill’s memory to an education fund for his daughters, Jennifer and Emily Griffith, in care of Julie Dutil, 18 Cano Drive, Barre, VT 05641.
