WATERBURY — The Vermont State Police Marine Division is urging the state’s boaters to remember the laws that govern boating.

Among the highlights are requirements that all vessels have a Coast Guard-approved personal flotation device for each person on board and that children under age 12 wear a flotation device at all times while a vessel is underway.

It is also against the law for anyone to operate a boat while under the influence of alcohol, drugs or any combination of both.

People born after Jan. 1, 1974, must have successfully completed an approved boating safety education course to operate any motorized vessel, including a personal watercraft.
